Trench Town Polytechnic College

We are a modern public higher education institution offering cutting-edge programmes.

Empowering the Next Generation of Skilled Professionals

At TTPC, we are redefining what it means to learn, lead, and succeed in today’s fast-changing world. Formerly Trench Town High School and now a proud member of the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ), TTPC is registered by the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (J-TEC) as a General Higher Education College and proudly holds the J-TEC Certificate of Recognition as a Prior Learning  Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Provider. TTPC is certified to identify and document your existing knowledge and skills; assess that learning against academic or professional standards; and recognize it through credits, exemptions, or qualifications. PLAR is a powerful equity tool—opening doors for non-traditional learners, recognizing workforce competencies, and accelerating credential completion.

We are a modern public higher education institution offering cutting-edge programmes in applied sciences, engineering, technical and vocational education, and continuing education.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: to transform lives and drive national development by delivering practical, industry-aligned, and technology-driven education. Every programme at TTPC is built to meet real-world demands—preparing students for meaningful careers, entrepreneurship, and lifelong success.

Our Philosophy

Education with Purpose. Learning for Life.

At Trench Town Polytechnic College (TTPC), we believe education should do more than inform—it should transform. Our philosophy is rooted in a deep commitment to building not just careers, but character, communities, and a stronger Jamaica.

We deliver on this by offering hands-on, industry-driven programmes designed to equip students with real-world skills. Through dual-modality learning (in-person and online), applied research, and entrepreneurship training, our students are prepared not just for jobs—but for leadership, innovation, sustainable development and lifelong success.

We are committed to sustainability, social inclusion, and social justice as essential pillars of our mission. We create equitable access to education by removing barriers and empowering all learners, while promoting environmental responsibility and community resilience. Through inclusive practices and a focus on fairness, we use education as a tool to uplift individuals and strengthen the nation.

Our innovative teaching strategies—including mastery learning, simulations, cooperative learning, social inquiry, and work-integrated education—nurture both academic excellence and social-emotional growth. We create a learning environment where students are respected, challenged, and supported every step of the way.

Our History

Rooted in Legacy. Driven by Innovation.

TTPC stands as a symbol of transformation and progress in one of Jamaica’s most culturally rich communities. Formerly known as Trench Town High School, a gift of the British Government to independent Jamaica, as part of the mechanisms and incentives to revitalize and rehabilitate inner city communities. The facilities were built in 1963 and officially opened on January 4, 1964.

Trench Town Polytechnic College (TTPC) was reimagined and reestablished in 2015 as a Comprehensive Polytechnic College, with the support of the Government of Jamaica to bridge education with industry needs—ensuring graduates are workforce-ready and capable of contributing meaningfully to Jamaica’s economic development.

Situated in the heart of Trench Town, St. Andrew—a community globally recognized as the birthplace of Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae—TTPC draws inspiration from a legacy of creativity, resilience, and innovation. The same community that nurtured icons like Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley now provides fertile ground for a new generation of leaders, creators, and change-makers.

Importantly, TTPC’s transformation also resonates with the visionary ideals of Marcus Garvey, a key figure in the Pan-African movement. In the 1929 Manifesto of Garvey’s People Political Party he envisioned a polytechnic, or technical institute, as a vital tool for empowerment and economic self-reliance, particularly in Jamaica. His belief in education as a catalyst for pride, autonomy, and economic development aligns seamlessly with TTPC’s mission. In many ways, TTPC represents the modern embodiment of Garvey’s dream—equipping individuals with the skills and mindset needed to uplift themselves and their communities.

Since its establishment, TTPC has remained committed to delivering industry-relevant, hands-on, and affordable education that supports national development and economic growth. The college has grown to offer a wide array of programmes in applied sciences, engineering, technical and vocational training, and continuing education, all tailored to meet the demands of today’s job market.

Given our strategic focus on workforce readiness, innovation, and entrepreneurship, TTPC’s evolution is not only timely—it directly aligns with our vision for sustainable, future-forward education models designed to empower individuals and drive economic resilience.
